Escaping from the hellishly strict lockdown Melbourne has been under all year. Things may be about to get better there, but either way I am now here.
2 weeks of government mandated quarantine and then I’m free to start living a life again. I got my first COVID test.
I rolled my ankle really bad last night and now I can’t walk at all.
It’s deliciously hot and the tropical weather and fierce but brief storms are all very confusing to me.
I t’s a nice change from the shitty apartment I’ve been spending all my time in - even if it’s truthfully just a different shitty apartment 3500km away .
It has been a rollercoaster.

At first I thought this was a Darwinian sociological post, then I read it and realized you meant Darwin literally. But then I read it again and thought ....still kinda Darwinian. ;)

Maybe us Australians are a bit thick, but when someone says Darwin, hot and humid northerny bits is all that comes to mind :)

Use the time wisely to rest your ankle and chill with some beers.
I don’t think you could be any further away from Melbourne and still be in Australia.
But take care and enjoy your time away.

Darwin is quite a fun town for the young and young at heart. Though going there at this time of year is a rough start, weather wise! Is this a permanent move?

No beers here I’m afraid. Most of this trip will be dry unfortunately.
I get a few days between quarantine and flying out to a remote community where I can finally go to a bar. And I will.

I’ve heard that but it doesn’t seem that bad! Warm but humid, rainy sometimes. Nah only for a few months.

N ice, we spent a few weeks in Cairns just before this whole Corona thing started getting big—what I wouldn’t give to be right back there! The Australian tropics are really special.

Cairns is nice :) I’ve got a friend in Townsville, sometimes I get up to see him and we drive to Cairns

We drove down to Townsville (well, Ayr actually) to try and dive the Yongala but alas, it was cyclone season and the boats couldn’t launch. Still, Magnetic Island was a great time (though we very nearly missed the ferry and had to really wring our rental Tucson through the rutted dirt paths to make it back!)

Sweet! I’ve been to Maggie once, it’s a pretty good time. Just a little island paradise sort of thing just off the coast. I went jetskiing in that bay between Townsville and the island once too, that was sick
